Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) / Raises:
MPSEA and our Coalition Partners (MCAA, Local 236, and Local 6000) worked very hard last year on pay parity. Included in our pay parity work was a so called “Me Too” clause. This clause in our pay parity resolution stated that if either protective services (sworn MFD / MPD staff) received a COLA higher than what the Council had approved for MPSEA and our Coalition Partners, that we would receive the same COLA. This was to help ensure that the 6% pay gap does not get any higher than it already is.
To that end, the IAFF Local 311 Fire contract has passed Council; they received a 1.5% COLA increase retroactive effective to 12/26/21. As MPSEA and our Coalition Partners have already received a 1% raise effective of 1/1/2022, the employees that we represent will receive a 0.5% COLA increase, with retroactive pay to 12/26/2021. It is MPSEA’s understanding that the 0.5% increase will be reflected on your June 10, 2022 paycheck, and the 0.5% payout for this retroactive pay will occur on the June 24, 2022 paycheck.
COVID / Vaccine Update:
There is new information from the CDC regarding vaccines, boosters for people of all ages, and eligibility. Please take a moment to review the vaccine information from the CDC at this link. Given the rapid rise in new cases in Dane County and throughout the Country, everyone who is able should take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families.
You can find the most up to date information on the spread of Covid in Dane County at the Madison Dane County Public Health Dashboard website.

Pay Gap Update
Published:
May 9, 2022
MPSEA Members:
We have continued to raise the issue of the 6% gap in pay between General Municipal Employees (GME) and sworn MPD / MFD staff. At a recent meeting with the Mayor, the Mayor and HR Staff provided the presentation linked below. MPSEA is sharing this document as a point of reference for our membership.
Additionally, the Mayor / HR asked all employees for assistance in generating ideas to:
Generate additional revenue for the City;
Identify one time or permanent cuts to services that could save the City money, and;
Identify one time or permanent savings that the City could achieve through other means.
These requests were made in the context of attempting to address the 6% pay gap discussed above. To that end, MPSEA is conducting a survey to help generate these ideas. All responses to the survey are anonymous. MPSEA will act as a clearinghouse for these ideas. The Board simply requests that responses be constructive.
Thank you for your time and service to the City.
Solidarity,
The MPSEA Board

Ways to Help Ukraine
Published:
March 1, 2022
MPSEA Members,
The MPSEA Board, like so many others worldwide, has been horrified to witness the unprovoked attack on and developing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine over the last week. Our hearts are with the unspeakably brave Ukrainian people in Ukraine and across the world, who are fighting for their country and their freedom. We also see and admire those in Russia who are speaking out against their own repressive government, often at great risk to themselves and their families. Amidst this tragedy, there have been so many images and stories of courage, and like the rest of the world, we will not forget them.
Many of our Board members have wondered how best to help those impacted. As such, we have compiled a brief list of articles that describe groups “on the ground” in Eastern Europe and Ukraine, and include instructions on how to donate if desired. MPSEA does not endorse any one organization over another, and is NOT asking members to donate. Our goal is just to inform and offer some guidance for those who wish to help.
